More than two decades earlier, Nixon and Pat made a notable stop in St. Petersburg. On October 28, 1970, the president visited the city as part of a campaign tour supporting Republican candidates across Florida.
He spoke before a large crowd at the Bayfront Center Arena, drawing significant local attention. The visit marked the first time a sitting U.S. president had come to St. Petersburg, placing the city briefly at the center of the national political stage.
