Shipwreck! Treasures of the Deep
One of our most memorable past exhibitions was Shipwreck! Treasures of the Deep. Presented in partnership with the deep-ocean explorers at Odyssey Marine Exploration, the exhibit brought visitors face-to-face with artifacts recovered from storied shipwrecks around the world. Guests encountered gleaming gold and silver pieces, tools of maritime life, and replicas of the advanced technology used to locate and recover treasures from the ocean floor.
Two standout artifacts included the 95-pound bell from the SS Republic, displayed publicly for the first time after years of conservation, and a 500-pound cannon lifted from an unidentified xebec once favored by Barbary pirates.
Immersive, dramatic, and rich with discovery, Shipwreck! Treasures of the Deep remains one of our most adventurous temporary exhibitions, highlighting the mysteries and magnetism of the underwater world.
